Trea

designed by Todd Bracher

The Red Dot-Award winning Trea pairs a clean, customisable aesthetic with high-functioning ergonomic support. Created with acclaimed designer Todd Bracher, Trea offers intuitive comfort by mimicking the human body’s natural recline and embracing its sitter in a supportive shell.

• Interchangeable components allow Trea to easily adapt its aesthetic for any office or workspace.
• Waterfall-edge seat softens pressure on the back of the knees.
• Contoured backrest gently cradles the body’s natural pivot points to encourage free and healthy movement – including 12-point recline.
• Net Positive certification means every Trea produced makes a quantifiable impact towards reversing climate damage.
• Trea is yours with a 15-year warranty.
*Due to the industry-wide increases in cost of raw materials, Humanscale will be applying a 4% raw materials surcharge on all commercial orders starting July 8th.

ABOUT THE DESIGN

Trea can be adapted for both office and home interiors. The chair’s four-star, cantilever or four-leg bases are interchangeable, so Trea can be customised for different environments and uses while maintaining visual consistency throughout a space.

Todd Bracher Image
Todd Bracher

One of the great young designers of the moment, native New Yorker Todd Bracher has earned worldwide attention for his furniture and product designs.

Bracher teamed up with Humanscale to create the striking Trea multipurpose chair, which mimics the instinctive recline of the human body without resorting to manual controls and the innovative Vessel light.

A Pratt Institute graduate, Bracher earned his MFA in interior and furniture design at the Danmarks Designskole in Copenhagen after winning a Fulbright design fellowship. He was named 2008 New Designer of the Year at New York’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair and has been twice nominated for Bolig’s International Designer of the Year Award. He has global experience, having headed up Tom Dixon's Design Studio in the UK, acted as a Professor of Design at the l'ESAD in France, and worked as Creative Director of luxury Scandinavian brand Georg Jensen.

In 2007 Bracher returned to New York after spending a decade overseas and founded Todd Bracher Studio in Brooklyn.

Design Story

“I wanted to design a multipurpose chair with a visual simplicity and unique recline mechanism that would allow it to be used anywhere and by anyone.”
Todd Bracher, Designer

As the line between home and office blurs, workplace design is increasingly informed by residential design. Visionary Designer Todd Bracher’s response to this new era is Trea. While creating this unique multipurpose chair, he investigated how nature had solved the problem of integrated articulation. He was inspired by the lobster shell: an exoskeleton that moves in harmony with the living organism it protects. By following the cues of this natural design, he arrived at a solution that perfectly responds to the human body’s desire to move and recline, without knobs, dials, and levers: a groundbreaking “solid state” recline mechanism that adapts seamlessly and intuitively to sitters of all sizes. The final product is a universal chair that speaks a design language at once modern and timeless.
